A New Era Begins for Spider-Man: Noir Fans

The end of an era is approaching for Spider-Man fans with the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Yet, as one chapter closes, another begins, with Marvel announcing a brand-new Spider-Man Noir series, separate from the adaptation currently in production for Prime Video.

While fans are undoubtedly excited for the expected 2026 release of Prime Video’s Spider-Man: Noir, another series will be arriving much sooner: Erik Larsen and Andrea Broccardo’s Spider-Man Noir comic.

The first issue launches October 1, 2025, bringing a new story for one of the Spider-Verse’s most beloved characters. Set in the 1930s, it follows private investigator Peter Parker working with Gwen Stacy to solve the murder of her father.

Spider-Man Noir is one of the most popular Peter Parker variants in the Marvel Universe, first debuting in David Hine and Fabrice Sapolsky’s Spider-Man: Noir #1 (2009). His rise in popularity has been remarkable, with appearances spanning comics, animated shows, video games, and multiverse storylines like Spider-Verse, an impressive achievement for a character who has only existed for 16 years.

It’s no surprise Marvel is going full force with Noir, giving him both a new TV series and comic. Even as the original Spider-Verse trilogy prepares to wrap by 2027, this feels like only the beginning for fan-favorites like Noir, who offer fresh and distinctive takes on everyone’s favorite web-slinger.

In an exclusive interview with CBR, Erik Larsen expanded on the comic series’s synopsis and what fans can expect. Since Spider-Man Noir reimagines Peter Parker as a 1930s detective, it naturally alters key aspects of the character. CBR pressed further, asking Larsen what he considered the biggest change he would bring to this upcoming take on the fan-favorite hero.

Larsen acknowledged that the setting plays a major role in shaping these changes. Still, he explained that his goal was to “nudge Spider-Man Noir in the comics closer to being Spider-Man Noir from the movies.” At the same time, he admitted to walking a fine line with this approach, balancing familiar elements with bold new storytelling choices.

Larsen emphasized that he doesn’t want Spider-Man Noir to just feel like a repeat of the Marvel Universe Spider-Man.” Yet, he also believes the character should retain “some of the humor and charm of the original Spider-Man.” With this balance in mind, the Spider-Man writer's ultimate goal is to create “a wildly inventive book with a very different flavor and feel from what [readers are] used to."

Spider-Man Noir #1 is available October 1, 2025, from Marvel Comics!
