The Goldman Case (2023)

The Goldman Case recreates one of the most controversial trials in recent French history. In 1976, Pierre Goldman, a far-left activist and intellectual known for his radical stance, returns to court after having already been convicted of other crimes. Accused of murdering two pharmacists during a botched robbery in Paris, he finds himself facing a legal battle that quickly goes beyond the limits of criminal proceedings, becoming a political and media spectacle.

The atmosphere in the courtroom is charged with tension, with heated speeches, contradictory testimonies, and a society deeply divided over the figure of Goldman. For some, he is a symbol of resistance against an oppressive system; for others, a cold and dangerous criminal who deserves the maximum sentence. The narrative reveals not only the complex personality of the accused — charismatic, provocative, and intellectually brilliant — but also a portrait of a France in turmoil, torn between revolutionary ideals, social fear, and power struggles.

Directed by Cédric Kahn, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Nathalie Hertzberg, the film delves into the political and human weight of a historic trial, questioning the boundary between justice and spectacle.
